Foundation stones laid for construction of 20 buildings in BHU






Varanasi, November 27, 2009:
Banaras Hindu University vice-chancellor Professor DP Singh on Friday laid foundation stones for the construction of 20 buildings of the university under OBC reservation. The Bhoomi Pujan and stone-laying function was organized near Shivaji Gymnasium.

Vice-chancellor also inaugurated newly constructed Working Women’s Hostel. Pujan was performed with chanting of Vedic mantras. Rector, registrar, finance officer, chief proctor, university engineer and vice-chancellor of Indira Gandhi Tribal University, Amarkantak, Professor CD Singh, university officers and employees were present on the occasions.

This is for the first time when foundation stones for construction of 20 buildings have been laid simultaneously in the university. Concerned directors, deans and head of departments also performed Bhoomi Pujan at their respective places.

The construction of 20 buildings will be done at the expenditure of Rs.100 cores, which is set to be completed by the end of May 2011.

The foundation stones have been laid for construction of Administrative Building, Faculty of Science; Department of Rasahastra, Faculty of Performing Arts-Annexe; Extension of Exhibition Hall, Faculty of Visual Arts, Auditorium, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Academic Complex, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Department of Botany-Annexe, Department of Chemistry-Annexe, Department of Geography-Annexe, Department of Geology-Annexe, Lecture Theatre Complex, Faculty of Science, Library and Faculty Chambers, Faculty of Management Studies, Boy’s Hostel, Faculty of Law, Seminar Faculty of Law, Lecture Theatre Complex, Faculty of Social Sciences, Library and Faculty Chambers, Faculty of Arts, Lecture Theatre Complex, Faculty of’ Department of Geophysics-Annexe, Lecture Theatre Complex, Mahila Mahavidyalaya and Lecture Halls behind Faculty of Ayurveda.

Besides this, Prof Singh inaugurated Working Women’s Hostel at New Medial Enclave. The cost of construction of this hostel is Rs.92 lakh. It consists of 20 double seated rooms. There are separate halls for entertainment, caring for children, dining, and office staff. In addition to normal central toilets the facility of toilet for physically handicapped has also been provided.
