Hooch tragedy hits Varanasi; 16 dead





The death toll in the hooch tragedy mounted to 16 on February 18, 2010 after 10 more people died from consuming spurious liquor in Varanasi’s Soyepur village.
Twelve others are undergoing treatment at various hospitals after they fell ill on Wednesday (Februry 17, 2010).
Meanwhile Uttar Pradesh government suspended six employees of the Excise Department and initiated departmental proceedings against two senior officers.
