Trade unions observe one-day strike in Varanasi

Functioning of commercial banks and several public services in Varanasi on September 7, 2010 was affected in the wake of the country-wide strike called by trade unions to protest price rise, alleged violation of labour laws and disinvestment in PSUs.

All central trade unions including INTUC. HMS, AITUC, CITU, AIUTUC, UTUC, TUCC and AICCTU gave a call for one-day strike on September 7 in protest against huge job losses, violation of labour laws and lack of adequate protection to unrecognized workers.
