Varanasi, November 3, 2010: Wheat Scientist and Assistant Professor Dr. B. Arun of Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University has been invited by International Research Organizations “Harvest Plus and International Food Policy Research Institute and CIAT” to participate in the First Global Conference on “Biofortification” to be held in Washington DC (USA) from November 9.
During his 10-day visit to USA from November 7 to 15, Dr. Arun will interact with scientists from around the world and also present some of the results of research being done in the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, BHU, for the biofortification of wheat crop for enhancing the micronutrient (zinc and iron) concentration. This research is very important because it will help eradicate the health problems like malnutrition etc. arising in the region due to the deficiency of micronutrients especially zinc and iron.
